Headquarters Gets Extreme Make-Over -- Re-Opening Event Attracts Local GOP
Redondo Beach, CA: On Monday evening, August 1st, the
South Bay Republican Headquarters at 1926 Pacific Coast Hwy celebrated a
grand re-opening. The center of Republican volunteer activities for
the 53rd Assembly District for about 12 years went through a major
facelift. The headquarters was re-organized from head to toe, the
carpets were replaced and it was re-painted.
The South Bay Republican Headquarters stays open year
after year completely based on the good will, time and money contributed
by local Republicans. "It really is a challenge to meet the
rent every month, but we do it because of small donations from so many
local residents who realize the importance of the volunteers work for
local issues and candidates," says Assembly District chairman Harry
Eicher.
This new make-over will ensure the Republican Party is
ready for the upcoming Special Election for a new Assembly Member.
The Special Election Primary is on September 13th with the top 2 voter
getters running off on November 8th, when the Governor's Special Election
will also be held.
"We are still looking for that great benefactor
that can help us to not spend so much time on fundraising and more time on
voter registration and electing great Republican candidates locally,"
says Eicher, "but until then, we will keep doing everything we needed
to keep the HQ operating as effectively as we can and this make-over was
key to that."
Many local Republicans and even elected officials helped
out. Torrance City Councilman, Paul Nowatka, joined numerous
volunteers that helped move furniture into the parking lot while the
painting was done and the carpet was replaced. Volunteers did the
painting between registering new Republicans. Nowatka recently
announced his intention to run for the Assembly in the special election.
"Volunteers deserve a clean, professional work area
to do all they do to help and now they have just that after this
make-over," says Jessamine Campbell, AD53 Central Committee
treasurer.
Each Assembly District elects 7 Central Committee
Members every 2 years to lead organizing activities in that Assembly
District. The current Republican AD53 Central Committee elected
members are Harry Eicher (chairman), Jessamine Campbell (treasurer),
Cherryl Liddle, Marjolein Oakley, Julius Wilson (vice chair), Joe
Villarino, and Sandy Rae.
